An effective direct mail campaign is comprised of three main components: the medium, the message and the mailing list.
Postcard printing is a flexible and efficient medium. Postcards can be designed as small as 4 x 6 for inexpensive printing and mailing. The relatively small size does not mean you have to sacrifice creativity or impact, if your design is clever and your intention is clear. You can print and mail postcards as large as 6 x 11 which, though more expensive, allow for greater flexibility and inclusion of more information.
What does your business want to communicate? A sale or other special event? A new product or service? A change of location? What design elements will tell your story most effectively? Bold colors, product photos and catchy tag-lines can all be used to help you communicate your message.
If you are beginning to compile your own mailing list, try having customers sign a guest book or enroll in a frequent-buyer program so you can get their contact information and update it regularly. Use your website to collect customer contact information as well. If you haven't yet amassed enough clients for a healthy mailing list, you can always buy or rent a mailing list. Mailing list companies can narrow down your search by defining your target demographic with respect to age, income level, geographical location and other important factors.
